Comcast rates go up March 1 Basic service unchanged

NORMAL - Comcast cable television customers will see about a 2.7percent increase in many of their rates beginning March 1.

Basic service will remain unchanged at $15.99 per month but otherservices, such as expanded basic and various digital packages, willincrease.

Expanded basic will increase from $40.51 to $43.96; digitalstarter package from $56.50 to $59.95; standard cable from $56.50 to$59.95; digital preferred from $73.45 to $76.90; and digital premierfrom $115.75 to $119.20. Other digital packages also will see anincrease.

Angelynne Amores, director of communications for Comcast'sgreater Chicago region, said the increases helps the company'scontinual investment in "next generation products," including on-demand programming, increased Internet speeds, and applications foriPads and computers.

"We work hard to hold our price adjustments for customers," shesaid.

Comcast took over the former Insight Communications Midwest inJanuary 2008 and implemented a fee increase in March of that year.Basic service went from $13.60 a month to $14.50. A year later,Comcast discontinued its analog broadcast package for new customers,introduced digital service, offered high-definition choices andadded to its channel lineup.

Amores said the company recently completed its digitalenhancement project and also added 3-D services to its offerings.

The company serves the Twin Cities and other large communities inCentral Illinois.
